Honda Civic Service Manual: Radiator Connecting Pipe Removal and Installation (R18A9)

1. Radiator Cap

1.

Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap.


2. Vehicle Lift

1.

Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.


3. Radiator Coolant - Replacement

1.

Loosen the drain plug (A), and drain the coolant.


4. Intake Air Pipe

1.

Remove the intake air pipe.


5. Thermostat Housing Peripheral Assembly (Natural Gas Model)


1.

Disconnect the connectors (A).


2.

Remove the harness clamps (B).



3.

Disconnect the connector (A).


4.

Remove the harness clamp (B).



5.

Remove the harness bracket (A).


6.

Disconnect the lower radiator hose (B), the water bypass hose (C), and the heater hose (D).


6. Thermostat Housing (Natural Gas Model)

1.

Remove the thermostat housing.


7. Radiator Connecting Pipe

1.

Remove the connecting pipe (A).


1. Radiator Connecting Pipe

Install the connecting pipe (A) with new O-ring (B).


2. Thermostat Housing (Natural Gas Model)

Install the thermostat housing (A), using a new gasket (B) and new O-ring (C).


3. Thermostat Housing Peripheral Assembly (Natural Gas Model)


1.

Connect the lower radiator hose (A), the water bypass hose (B), and the heater hose (C).


2.

Install the harness bracket (D).



3.

Install the harness clamp (A).


4.

Connect the connector (B).



5.

Install the harness clamps (A).


6.

Connect the connectors (B).


4. Intake Air Pipe

1.

Install the intake air pipe.


5. Radiator Coolant - Replacement (Natural Gas Model)

1.

Follow the chart and pour coolant into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck.


NOTE:

Use Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, and if necessary add Honda Extreme Cold Weather Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 (concentrate). Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.

Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Honda Extreme Cold Weather Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a 100% concentration coolant. Do not add water to either coolant.

If the vehicle is regularly driven in very low temperatures (below -22 °F ( -30 °C)), a 60 % concentration of coolant should be used.

*: When you want to winterize the coolant with the minimum amount of coolant change but the current coolant concentration in the vehicle is unknown, you must drain all coolant from the cooling system.
